Venezuela repudiates second theft of an oil tanker by the US

Venezuela revokes approval granted to Brazil to represent Argentina's interests

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela issued a statement this Saturday in which it categorically repudiates the robbery and kidnapping of a new private ship transporting Venezuelan oilas well as the forced disappearance of its crew, events attributed to United States military personnel in international waters.

The Venezuelan Government described the action as a serious act of piracy, pointing out that it constitutes the commission of the crime provided for in Article 3 of the 1988 Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation.

Likewise, he denounced that the operation represents a violation of article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations, article 2 of the Geneva Convention on the High Seas and the Declaration relating to the principles of international law referring to relations of friendship and cooperation between States.

“The colonialist model that the United States Government intends to impose with these types of practices will fail and will be defeated by the Venezuelan people,” the statement stressed.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces and categorically rejects the theft and kidnapping of a new private ship transporting Venezuelan oil, as well as the forced disappearance of its crew, committed by military personnel of the United States of America in international waters.

This serious act of piracy implies the flagrant commission of the crime provided for in Article 3 of the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation of 1988, as well as a gross violation of Article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations, Article 2 of the Geneva Convention on the High Seas and the Declaration relating to the principles of international law relating to friendly relations and cooperation between States, among other rules of law. The colonialist model that the United States Government intends to impose with these types of practices will fail and will be defeated by the Venezuelan people. Venezuela will continue to move forward with its economic growth, based on its 14 engines and the development of its hydrocarbon industry in an independent and sovereign manner.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms that these acts will not go unpunished and will take all corresponding actions, including the denunciation before the United Nations Security Council, other multilateral organizations and the governments of the world. International Law will prevail and those responsible for these serious events will answer to justice and history for their criminal conduct.
