The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the actions of the Israeli security forces during the funeral of the Palestinian journalist from Al Jazeera, Shireen Abu Akleh, assassinated by the occupation army in the West Bank last Wednesday.
In this sense, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Félix Plasencia, on behalf of the Venezuelan people, expresses his solidarity with Palestine “in the face of injustice and the alleged ignorance of the noble and just cause” of the journalist Abu Akleh, through his account on the social network Twitter, @plasenciafelixr.
In videos posted on social media, Israeli forces can be seen attacking the procession and beating those carrying Abu Akleh’s coffin. In addition, they ripped Palestinian flags from the hands of the attendees and fired stun grenades, which has unleashed a wave of outrage in the world.
The Israeli police announced that it will investigate the actions of its agents, after international criticism received for the images of the coffin about to fall to the ground due to police aggression.
Both the Al Jazeera network and the Palestinian National Authority blame Israel for the death of Akleh, who had been covering the conflict for more than two decades.
