The 17 people released by Venezuela after spending several months detained in prisons in our country are already in Colombia. 16 men and one woman are part of this group of citizens who were received by Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio Mapy on the Venezuelan part of the border and entered Colombia through the Atanasio Girardot international bridge, Ureña (Táchira).
According to Minister Villavicencio, the Colombians are at the Tienditas bridge where they are undergoing medical triage and have met with most of their relatives.
“We are explaining to them what follows, the accompaniment and the immigration part. We were anxiously waiting for them to be able to reach our territory,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who also highlighted that those released did not have judicial proceedings in Venezuela.
The director of Migration Colombia, Gloria Arriero, assured that from that entity the officers are carrying out the entire immigration control process in each of the passports: “All the background information has already been verified and there is no request in the country. We give some peace of mind to the relatives, soon they will share with them.”
Finally, Foreign Minister Villavicencio indicated that there are still some detainees in the neighboring country: “Through the government of Gustavo Petro, the priority is the compatriots, their human rights and we will continue in the negotiations with Venezuela so that the rest of the people can be released.”
