In an official statement released on April 12, 2025, the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, expressed her rejection and protest to the warmongering intentions of the president of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, whom she described as the “Caribbean Zelensky.”
Rodríguez denounced that Guyana, with the support of his United Kingdom allies and the United States, threatens the national sovereignty of Venezuela and seeks to strip the country of its legitimate territory in the Estequiba Guayana region.
The vice president stressed that these acts contravene the CELAC’s statement that establishes Latin America and the Caribbean as a peace zone. In addition, he recalled that the United Kingdom and the United States were the architects of the arbitration award of 1899, considered fraudulent by Venezuela, which tried to strip the country of Guyana Esequiba.
Rodríguez reaffirmed that Venezuela will defend their legitimate rights and territorial integrity in all possible scenarios.
The context of these statements arises after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Guyana Defense Force and the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense on April 11, 2025, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in defense.
Venezuela, on the other hand, prepares to choose a governor in the Esequiba Guayana region on May 25, reaffirming its sovereignty over this territory.
The vice president concluded her statement with a call to the region to be alert to these Belicist drums and reaffirmed that “the Sun of Venezuela is born in the Esequibo!”
