Venezuela rejects renewal of sanctions by the European Union

Venezuela rejects statement on Americans detained in the country

Through a statement, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela once again rejected the illegal and arbitrary sanctions imposed by the European Union, who insist on undermining Peace, Sovereignty and the determination of the Venezuelan people and their faithfully elected government under the constitutional mandates.

The information was released by the Chancellor of the Republic, Carlos Faría through his account on the social network Twitter.

In the letter, the National Government emphasized that this erroneous decision intends to boycott any progress agreed in the Paris Forum for Peace, in which opposition actors and the government would establish a new negotiating table, publicly supported by the French president. Emmanuel Macron.

The EU decision “is incoherent and constitutes a slap in the face of the initiative” of dialogue refers to the document.

The statement highlights the limitations that coercive measures entail when accessing food, medicine, primary supplies, machinery, spare parts and all necessary equipment to guarantee fundamental rights that ensure the normal development of our society.

“Unilateral measures massively punish and violate the human rights of the Venezuelan people,” the text refers.

For this reason, Venezuela categorically rejects any hostile act of political blackmail that threatens international law, the sovereignty and independence of peoples, and contrary to submitting to this decision, its democracy and sovereignty will continue to be defended in all spaces and scenarios of international politics.

Here is the full text:

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the unfortunate decision of the European Union to renew, for another consecutive year, the Unilateral Coercive Measures against the Venezuelan People, announced on November 11, 2022.

With this anachronistic decision, the intention is to insist on a completely erroneous strategy, with which the EU has not managed, in the last five years, to fulfill its objective of overthrowing the Bolivarian Government or separate our people from the political course enshrined in our Constitution.

The Unilateral Coercive Measures illegally applied by the European Union in a premeditated manner punish and massively violate the human rights of the Venezuelan people, since their indirect consequences end up limiting access to food, medicine, primary supplies, machinery, spare parts and equipment necessary for guarantee fundamental rights and ensure the normal development of our society.

The decision of the European Union, published on the same day that President Emmanuel Macron publicly expressed his willingness to support the negotiations between the Government of Venezuela and a sector of the opposition, is incoherent and constitutes a slap in the face of the French initiative called Forum for the peace.

We repudiate the insane policy of resorting to these tools of political blackmail, contrary to democratic and human rights principles, instituting a dangerous practice contrary to the principles of International Law and peaceful coexistence between States.

The People and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will insist on continuing to defend our sovereignty, based on our constitutional principles, reaffirming at all times our independence won more than 200 years ago.
