The Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, issued an official statement in which he expresses the categorical rejection of the Bolivarian nation to the renewal of the so-called “national emergency” with respect to Venezuela. This measure, which qualifies the country as an “unusual and extraordinary threat,” was extended by the United States Government on February 18, 2026.
This renewal continues Executive Order 13692, originally signed on March 8, 2015 by then-President Barack Obama.
The document adds that this measure lacks an objective basis and real justification, being based on arguments far from the truth and international law. Likewise, Gil pointed out that the national government has reiterated on several occasions that Venezuela does not represent any danger to the United States or any other nation in the world.
Given this action, Venezuela urges the North American Government to move towards a stage of reciprocal respect and frank dialogue; assume a constructive and respectful role in the conduct of its international relations and abandon unilateral approaches.
