Venezuela rejects interfering US memorandum on drugs

Venezuela rejects statement on Americans detained in the country

Venezuela strongly rejects the inconsistent Memorandum of the administration of Joseph Biden, on the main producing countries of drugs illicit or transit of important narcotic substances for fiscal year 2023, published on September 15, 2022, in which in an interventionist manner it argues and ignores the actions of the Bolivarian Government in its fight against drug trafficking.

Through a releasepublished by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, the Bolivarian Republic considers that this memorandum on drug-producing countries is “of an interfering nature and lacks legality”, and also shows a total lack of knowledge about the actions of the Venezuelan Government in the permanent fight against drugs.

“The faithful fulfillment of the international commitments of the Bolivarian Government, whose tenor to address the permanent fight against illicit drug trafficking has been under the foundations of the United Nations, is unknown,” the statement stressed.

In this sense, the Bolivarian Government reaffirms its commitment to continue with the “frank, frontal and sincere fight against drug trafficking”.

Below is the release full, issued by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry:

Venezuela rejects inconsistent US memorandum on drug-producing countries

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the inconsistent Memorandum of the Joseph Biden administration, of an interfering nature and with a legal lack, on “the main producing countries of illicit drugs or important drug transit for fiscal year 2023”, published the last September 15, 2022.

In that infamous publication, the faithful fulfillment of the international commitments of the Bolivarian Government is unknown, whose tenor to address the permanent fight against illicit drug trafficking has been under the foundations of the United Nations and in total aversion to unilateral practices of evaluation politicized.

It is ostensible that since the expulsion of the Drug Control Administration (DEA) from Venezuela, the Bolivarian Government has achieved, with sovereign policies, the largest seizures and confiscations in history and has waged a merciless war against drug traffickers and irregular groups by outside the law, thus registering in 2021, the record for the seizure of 51 tons of drugs in more than 5,000 procedures.

The White House, once again, seeks to issue unfounded judgments that justify its annual expenses to supposedly address the great public health problem that drug use represents in the United States, which, according to the 2022 Report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), claimed around 107 thousand lives in 2021.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns the role of the US administration in pretending to be the policeman of the international arena and persisting in the imposition of extraterritorial policies.

The Bolivarian Government reaffirms its unrestricted and unconditional commitment in the frank, frontal and sincere fight against drug trafficking, as well as in addressing the impartial evaluation under multilateral mechanisms, in order to maintain and preserve the sovereignty of Venezuela.
