The Government of Venezuela issued a statement this Monday, December 30, in which it rejects the “illegitimate action” taken by an Argentine judge against the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega.
It is a clear “lawfare” operation designed to attack a legitimate and sovereign government, indicates the text of the foreign ministry published on its digital profiles and shared by the minister of communication, Freddy Ñáñez, on his Telegram channel.
Such action undertaken by federal judge Ariel Lijo is also directed against Vice President Rosario Murillo and senior officials of the Government of Nicaragua, the statement states.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the illegal and illegitimate action taken by the Argentine federal judge, Ariel Lijo, against President Daniel Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo and senior officials of the Government of Nicaragua, in a clear lawfare operation designed to attack a legitimate and sovereign government.
This ridiculous action, based on falsehoods by agents aligned with Western hegemonism and anti-Sandinista opposition sectors, demonstrates the political use of the Argentine judicial system as an instrument of intervention.
Such aggression responds to a systematic strategy that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of independent States and justify the imposition of unilateral coercive measures in the name of supposed human rights principles.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the use of the principle of universal jurisdiction for political purposes, a maneuver that violates the fundamental principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States enshrined in international law.
We reiterate our unwavering solidarity with the people and Government of Nicaragua, led by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, in their fight to defend sovereignty, social justice and self-determination. We raise our voices, together with the free nations of the world, to reject any attempt at intervention disguised as legality.
