Venezuela rejects human rights report presented to the UN

Venezuela criticises Argentina, Israel and US votes against Palestine at the UN

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yván Gil expressed on Thursday his strong rejection of the presentation of a report to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) by the so-called Fact-Finding Mission, linked to the Lima Group, which seeks to question the government of President Nicolás Maduro on Human Rights (HR).

The letter states that the aforementioned mission intends to turn the victims of fascism and the Venezuelan extremist right into victimizers, ignoring the actions of the so-called terror commandos who murdered 27 citizens and caused damage to public health, education and security facilities, which clearly constitutes a violation of the human rights of Venezuelans.

It should be noted that this mission has its origin in an initiative promoted in 2018 before the UN Human Rights Council by the defunct Lima Group, which resulted in alleged investigations in Venezuela and the periodic publication of adverse reports on the state of human rights in the country, which have served to attack Venezuela in times of greatest political tension.

In the statement published by the Foreign Ministry, the National Government emphasizes that Venezuela has great support and moral support in defense of human rights in the region, which is evidenced by the approval of the 1999 Constitution, in which human rights are contained from beginning to end, while highlighting the victory of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections of July 28, a fact that definitely contributes to ensuring continuity on the path of truth and justice in Venezuela.

The full text of the statement is below:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the presentation to the United Nations Human Rights Council of the vulgar and pamphleteering report, drafted by an illegitimate, politicized and ideologized mission, created by the cartel of governments of the failed Lima Group, with the sole objective of complying with orders issued by Washington, to apply the US policy of ‘regime change’ against the legitimate government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The persistence of this shameful mission is a clear example of the erratic drift of the institutions of the United Nations System, increasingly straying from their functions, turning them into instruments of coercion and blackmail of sovereign peoples and governments, discredited in the eyes of world public opinion, as they are incapable of addressing true acts of crimes against humanity such as the genocide in Palestine, carried out by the State of Israel and supported by the governments of the United States and the European Union, who use human rights as an instrument of aggression and blackmail against free and sovereign peoples.

Venezuela has denounced before the UN Human Rights Council and its High Commissioner, with sufficient evidence, the assassination attempts against the president, vice president and other high-ranking officials, as well as the attempts to invade Venezuelan territory, through groups of mercenaries hired in the United States and Europe. Likewise, the pernicious effects of the Unilateral Coercive Measures on the enjoyment of the fundamental rights of the Venezuelan people have been amply documented. Regrettably, the officials who receive these complaints seem to be more concerned with obtaining the approval of the United States to occupy positions in this international bureaucracy.

The monstrosity presented by the illegitimate mission aims to turn the victims of fascism and the Venezuelan extremist right into victimizers, ignoring the actions of the so-called ‘terror commandos’ who murdered 27 Venezuelans and caused damage to health, education and security facilities, which is a direct attack on the fundamental rights of citizens.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has the highest moral standard in the defense of Human Rights in the region. Since the approval of the Constitution in 1999, we have created a robust protection apparatus which is the pride of all Venezuelans. The popular victory of President Nicolás Maduro Moros on July 28 guarantees that we will continue on this path of truth and justice as taught by the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez Frías.”
