Venezuela rejects EU decision to freeze Russian assets

The Government rejects the freezing of assets of the Russian Federation in Europe approved by the European Union, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez reported this Saturday.

Through her Telegram account, the senior official spoke about information published by a French news channel, highlighting that the European Union’s decision “violates International Law, threatens the legal security of investments and undermines peace initiatives in the region.”

He added that “these illicit actions are part of the onslaught of the global north against those of us who subscribe to a new world of legality against theft, piracy, plundering and looting.”

Finally, the Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela asserted that “the new world will prevail.”

It should be noted that this Friday, December 12, the European Union (EU) made the decision to block indefinitely Russia’s assets that are frozen in Europe. For its part, Russia has repeatedly called the freeze theft and warned of consequences.

The Central Bank of Russia has even announced that it has initiated legal proceedings against the international depository Euroclear for “illegal actions” that generate losses and the European Commission’s plans to directly or indirectly use Russian frozen assets without its consent.
