Venezuela participated on Monday in the third meeting of national coordinators of the group of friends in defense of the Charter of the United Nations Organization (UN) held in Moscow, Russia.
In the event, held until this Tuesday, the permanent representative of Venezuela was present before the United Nations, Ambassador Samuel Moncada, together with delegations from the other member countries of the group, including Belarús, Bolivia, China, Cuba, North Korea, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Iran, Laos, Malí, Nicaragua, Palestin Zimbabue.
At the beginning, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Serguéi Lavrov, addressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation in defense of the UN foundational principles.
For his part, the Moncada ambassador transmitted the greetings of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro; of the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez; as well as Chancellor Yván Gil.
In addition, he thanked the hospitality of the Russian government and reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to multilateralism, highlighting the relevance of 2025, the year in which 80 years of the UN foundation are commemorated and the defeat of Nazism and fascism, said a Press note of Foreign Ministry.
Attacks against the multilateral system
Moncada warned about the growing attacks against the multilateral system, the United Nations Charter and International Law. He also denounced the use of unilateral coercive measures against the southern peoples, the increase in military spending and the criminalization of migration as direct threats to international stability.
The diplomat warned about the resurgence of dangerous trends in the international system, indicating that “when we thought that the situation could not be more worrying, with the attempts to advocate an alleged ‘order based on rules’, now we see that this has been overcome and we go to a new stage, even more dangerous: the emergence of the law of the strongest, which intends to return to the age of imposition of visions that privilege the way of force ».
He also stressed the urgent need to move towards a deep reform of international financial architecture that guarantees equal conditions for all countries and noted that the current system, which is based on the domain of the dollar and on platforms such as Swift, has become a mechanism of coercion and exclusion, being incompatible with a truly equitable global economy.
Moncada called the member countries of the group of friends to redouble their efforts with the purpose of mobilizing more states that are related and activate innovative cooperation mechanisms that make it possible to face emerging challenges.
“We need more diplomacy, more dialogue and more multilateralism, no less,” he said and ratified Venezuela’s commitment to the promotion of a fair, inclusive and peaceful world order.
