Venezuela reaffirms commitment to anti-drug policy at UN forum

Venezuela participated in the “Information Meeting on the Situation of Latin America and the Caribbean regarding the World Drug Problem,” organized by the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna, Austria.

Through the Instagram account of the Ministry of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, it is highlighted that the national anti-drug superintendent, Danny Ferrer Sandrea, led the official intervention, under the virtual modality, where he reaffirmed the commitment of the Venezuelan State to the principles of regional co-responsibility and multilateralism.

Next, he highlighted that “international cooperation is considered essential in the fight against illicit drug trafficking” and urged the international community to strengthen cooperation and technical assistance mechanisms.

Ferrer Sandrea rejected the politicized use of the drug issue and the application of unilateral coercive measures, considering that these practices undermine the spirit of collaboration and negatively affect cooperation between nations.

Superintendent Ferrer assured that Venezuela recognizes international conventions and ratifies its position in favor of promoting constructive dialogue in the region, reaffirming Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace.

Reference is also made to the fight against trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances that Venezuela has maintained, in full effective and responsible cooperation, highlighting that as of 2021 it has strengthened its bilateral and multilateral support ties, achieving in 2024 the seizure of 6.72 tons of drugs as a result of effective international coordination mechanisms.

In fact, President Nicolás Maduro has maintained an anti-drug policy, based on a comprehensive and social-humanist approach that articulates preventive actions, interdiction operations and international cooperation.
