The Venezuelan Minister for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, held a meeting on Tuesday with the president of the Palestinian National Council, Rashi Fattouh, who is in the country fulfilling a work agenda.
During the meeting, Gil ratified —on behalf of Venezuela— his support for the fight for the Palestinian cause.
“We held an important meeting with the president of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, to whom we ratify our invariable support for the struggle of the brother Palestinian people for land, freedom and self-determination,” Gil wrote in the Twitter social network.
He stated that, in addition, the work agenda was reviewed to “continue strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between our peoples.”
Venezuela and Palestine strengthen relations
This Monday, Fattouh held meetings with different government authorities and with representatives of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
During the meeting with the PSUV, the first vice president of the political organization, Diosdado Cabello, reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to the Palestinian cause.
In the same way, he stressed that, since the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution, in Venezuela “we have closely followed all the injustice in the world against the brother Palestinian people.”
In this sense, he advocated that justice be achieved and thus the people of Palestine be totally free from the aggressions on the part of Israel.
Subsequently, he held a meeting at the Federal Legislative Palace, with the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez, and members of the National Directorate of Legislative Power.
It should be remembered that since 2009 —during the government of President Hugo Chávez—, Venezuela recognized the State of Palestine and established diplomatic relations.
This made Venezuela the first country on the continent to recognize the sovereignty of this Arab people.
Since then, Venezuela has firmly supported the rights of the Palestinian people in the face of the illegal occupation and the incessant attacks by Israel in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
