Venezuela raises your voice in the South Global Forum: Communication for Sovereignty

During his speech at the media forum and thought tanks of the South Global 2025, which was carried out in the city of Kunming, Yunnan province, in China, the sector vice president of Communication and Culture, Freddy Ñáñezreaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to sovereign, ethical and service of the peoples.

The event brought together representatives from various global southern countries to discuss the role of the media in the construction of emancipatory narratives.

Communication as a resistance tool

From the International Tribune, Ñáñez stressed that “communication cannot be an instrument of domination, but a tool for the liberation of peoples.” On behalf of the Bolivarian government, he stressed the importance of building a communication agenda that breaks with stigmas imposed by large media corporations.

“The Global South has the right to narrate from its own voice, from its own struggles and hopes,” he said. In that sense, he called to strengthen public, community and alternative media as spaces of critical thinking and cultural defense.

Strategic alliances for a common narrative

Ñáñez also proposed the creation of a network of media and thought tanks of the Global South, aimed at sharing content, research and communication strategies. “It is not enough to resist, we must move towards articulated communication, with geopolitical vision and ethical commitment,” he said.

During his speech, he reiterated that Venezuela is willing to contribute to his experience in the communication battle, especially in blocking contexts, media war and informative manipulation. “We have learned that the truth is also defended with creativity, with art, with thought,” he concluded.

On September 1, Venezuela supported the Proposal of the People’s Republic of China on the Global Governance Initiativepresented by President Xi Jinping in the context of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (OCS), held in Tianjin.

Through a statement, Foreign Minister Yván Gil stressed that “this new international project is linked to the three initiatives previously raised by China, global development, global civilization and global security,” respectively.

Venezuela’s participation in the South Global Forum reaffirms its commitment to sovereign communication, plural and committed to peoples. In times of narrative dispute, the country is positioned as an active actor in the construction of a new communication order, based on cooperation, ethics and informative justice.
