Venezuela provides support to FDIM in defense of women's rights

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, ratified this Friday the support of the national government for the fight for women’s rights in a meeting with members of the Women’s International Democratic Federation (FDIM).

“Take the truth of Venezuela, its essence, its sensitivity to the world and you women of the world can count on the support of Venezuela for the fight for the truth and women’s rights,” she asserted from the Miraflores Palace, where she received to a group of women who participated in the XVII Congress of the Federation that took place this week in Caracas.

Maduro affirmed that the FDIM can “count on Venezuela as its home” and stressed that the fight for the protection of women and their rights “is a universal fight” and must lead to “absolute respect for their integrity, for the beauty of which is the woman”.

“Women are superior to us men in sensitivity, efficiency, effectiveness. They are smarter, more sociable,” added the head of state.

She added that the Women’s International Democratic Federation “has played a vital role in 77 years of struggle so that today humanity can recognize the rights of women throughout planet earth.”

The president of the FDIM, Salvadoran Lorena Peña, explained that six work tables were set up in Congress where topics such as the current role of the FDIM, the training policy for the new generation of women, the adaptation of the message in digital media and the establishment of national and regional alliances.

«Our meeting takes place in a critical situation worldwide due to the pandemic and the resurgence of aggressive wars in the world (…) We are leftist feminists and this has marked the meeting; and the great global challenge that we have is how to respond to this global situation while keeping the interests of us women within that defense », she stated.

He affirmed that they will advance in the construction of the youth movement of the Federation and in important issues such as human rights and diversity, in addition to what refers to a women’s movement of workers.

In this regard, Maduro instructed the Ministry for Women and Gender Equality to give full support to the Federation so that they advance as quickly as possible in adapting the message on social networks.

“I am glad that they are thinking about the new generations, about expanding the agenda,” the president celebrated.

The Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Diva Guzmán, indicated that more than 90 delegates from 27 countries participated in the FDIM Congress.

“Women were participants in the debate and it has ignited the debate of the Venezuelan women’s movement. We are happy that they have chosen Venezuela as the main venue for the XVII congress », she said.

The XVII FDIM Congress was inaugurated on Monday at the Meliá Hotel in Caracas under the slogan “Women of the world united to eliminate inequalities and violence, for peace and the health of the planet.”
