Venezuela proposes the creation of an energy development bank

This Friday at the Voice of the Global South Summitthe Sector Vice President of Economy, Tareck El-Aissamiproposed the creation of an energy development Bank.

The purpose of the approach presented by Venezuela is to leverage and sustain projects for the diversification of the countries, within the framework of South-South cooperation, under the principles of solidarity, complementarity and self-determination of the peoples.

El Aissami participated in the Summit via videoconference, along with the Indian ambassador to Venezuela Abhishek Singh.

In his speech, the oil minister also pointed out that in an initial stage the Energy Development Bank must cover the basic needs of the people, in terms of access to affordable, safe and reliable energy sources.

To delve into his approaches, El Aissami referred to the strategic position of the countries of the Global South in the current global context; in addition to having a high capacity and quantity of diverse energy resources.

“Today the Global South represents a main variable within the global energy equation or matrix that seeks to guarantee energy security for future generations,” said the Minister.

Alternative energy development

On the other hand, El Aissami stressed that the Venezuelan government is aware of the importance of energy to achieve economic growth; » even more so in the context of the crisis that the world energy market is going through. For this reason, we understand the need to promote policies and initiatives that allow access to energy sources, in accordance with objectives 7 and 13 of Sustainable Development »he asserted.

Outlining the situation of energy poverty experienced by many countries, El Aissami presented the latest United Nations figures indicating that “some 733 million people lack access to electricity; 800 million do not have the possibility of having reliable energy and more than 2 thousand 350 million still cook, using fuels that are harmful to their health and the environment.

In this regard, El Aissami reiterated the commitment of the Venezuelan Government as a signatory of the international solar alliance, to maintain joint efforts for the development of an alternative energy plan based on solar energy projects and thus improve global supply.

Similarly, in his speech at the Summit of the voice of the Global South, the sectoral vice president of economy urged diplomatic representatives from 120 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia, to invest in Venezuela to develop the energy potential and make it available to the great needs that humanity demands.

«Venezuela is ready and prepared to produce, export, sign contracts and agreements with all the energy companies in the world. we are a nation with open doors that meets all the conditions for production; preserving all legal guarantees»- said El Aissami.

Faced with the global energy reality, Tareck El Aissami reiterated that Venezuela wishes that “in frank solidarity we continue promoting concrete solutions that help us overcome shared challenges and work in joint areas to strengthen and consolidate potential energy goals every day, based on to the commitment to protect the environment for future generations.

Rejection of sanctions

In the middle of his speech, El Aissami reiterated the country’s rejection of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States government.

“I cannot stop expressing, as Venezuela has done in different instances, international forums, our firmest rejection and repudiation of the criminal policy of imposing sanctions, by the world hegemonic powers,” he said.

He stressed that the results of these measures have dramatically violated global energy security and has attacked a significant number of reliable energy providers.

Given this, he reiterated the importance of establishing a balanced and complementary energy matrix, under a policy of joint effort that makes it possible to take advantage of renewable and non-renewable energy sources to ensure the world energy agenda and promote diversification and global balance.
