After the criminal attack perpetrated by the US in Venezuelan territory on January 3 – where they broke into the residence of President Nicolás Maduro and kidnapped him along with his wife Cilia Flores – the Bolivarian Government paid tribute to the martyrs who offered their lives in the performance of their duty. A large part of his security team died in the event, including 32 Cuban combatants on cooperation and defense missions.
Through a statement released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil on his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan nation expressed its solidarity with the Government of Cuba in the face of this vile act.
«These personnel acted within the framework of cooperation between sovereign States and were carrying out institutional protection and defense tasks. “His performance was distinguished by courage, discipline and unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability,” said the official statement.
Likewise, he thanked President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Army General Raúl Castro Ruz for their firm solidarity.
At the same time, the authorities extended a fraternal embrace to the families of the fallen and to the revolutionary forces, whose sacrifice strengthens the historical ties of brotherhood, sovereignty and struggle between both nations.
