Venezuela participates in the 66th period of sessions of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND, for its acronym in English) of the United Nations Organization (UN), which takes place from March 13 to 17 in Vienna, Austria.
The information was released, through his account on the social network Twitter, by the National Anti-drug Superintendent (sunad), Richard López Vargas, who specified that it is an “annual high-level event that contributes to the global fight against the drug problem.”
“The 66th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs begins in Vienna. For Venezuela, the National Anti-Drug Superintendency will be present from March 13 to 17 at this high-level annual event that contributes to the global fight against the drug problem,” the Superintendent posted on Twitter.
“Once again, Venezuela presenting ourselves at the United Nations headquarters, participating in the 66th session of the CND, showing our disposition, what is Venezuela’s fight against drug crime, exchanging information and relating through all the countries of the world,” said López in a video posted in the message on the social network.
About the Commission on Narcotic Drugs
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs (DNC) was established by resolution 9 (I) of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 1946, for the supervision of the application of the international drug control treaties.
According to the CND website, in 1991, the UN General Assembly expanded the CND’s mandate so that it could function as the governing body of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
This Commission, made up of 53 Member States, meets every year at its headquarters in Vienna to discuss, from different visions and approaches, the world drug problem and to formulate demand and supply reduction strategies.
Colombia He will preside over the 66th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in 2023. It is the second time that he has held this position at the United Nations since the establishment of the CND in 1946. He had already assumed this mandate in 1987.
