The XV International Meeting of Criminal Sciences began its sessions in Cuba this Wednesday with a look at the fight against corruption, terrorism and illegal drug trafficking at the international level.
During the inauguration, the Attorney General of the Republic, Yamila Peña, pointed out that the political, economic and social problems of the world today generate an increase in crimes in their various modalities, such as corruption, drug trafficking and illegal migrants, as well as organized crime and fraud, refers to Prensa Latina
He stressed that Cuba maintains its policy of zero tolerance for drugs and for this it deployed a series of preventive, educational and communication policies in the most vulnerable sectors in the country.
Regarding the international fight against terrorism, he pointed out that the island “has not allowed, nor will it allow, the use of its territory to carry out, plan or finance acts of terrorism against any other state.”
The Cuban Minister of Justice, Oscar Silvera, shared data on the country’s legislative activity and noted that in the current Legislature of the National Assembly (parliament) a total of 121 legal norms (35 laws and 86 decree laws) were approved, done without precedents on the island.
He commented that in order to improve the process of elaboration of legal provisions and increase popular participation, new requirements were implemented for the creation of the preliminary drafts, such as the publication of the norms on the websites responsible for their elaboration.
Venezuela present
The Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, presented a conference called “History of Human Rights and its Guarantees within the Constitution.”
This presentation was made before 12 international delegations between countries of Latin America, Europe and Asia.
“When we talk about the history of human rights and their guarantee within the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, this had as a great prologue, all the struggles, all the battles of humanity, to exalt human dignity,” said the highest authority of the Venezuelan Public Ministry.
The XV International Meeting of Criminal Sciences will be held until Friday at the Havana Convention Center, with the participation of legal professionals from a dozen countries and more than 400 national specialists.
