Venezuela invites Guyana to resume negotiations on Guayana Esequiba

Venezuela invites Guyana to resume negotiations to resolve the dispute over the territory of Guayana Esequiba, in order to celebrate the independence of the South American country.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued a statement this Friday, where it extends its congratulations to the people of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, on the occasion of commemorating the 57th anniversary of its emancipation.

“On such a great date, the Venezuelan Government conveys its best wishes for the well-being and prosperity of the people of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana,” the official letter reports.

Along these lines, Venezuela reiterated its “cordial invitation” to Guyana to “resume the path of political negotiation” regarding the dispute over the territory of Guayana Esequiba, as contained in the Geneva Agreement of February 17, 1966. .

ICJ decision on the dispute

At the beginning of last AprilVenezuela celebrated the incidental decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by recognizing that the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom of Great Britain can be reviewed, and secondly because it makes clear the existence and validity of the 1966 Geneva Agreement.

In June and November 2022, the Republic demonstrated with “rigorous, forceful and abundant documentation, the fraudulent mechanisms” used by the United Kingdom of Great Britain to seize its territory of Guayana Esequiba from Venezuela, points out a report. release.

The United Kingdom was the State that since 1840 forged maps and set up a stratagem to perpetrate the fraudulent arbitration committed against Venezuela in Paris in 1899.

Subsequently, London signed and committed to Venezuela in the Geneva Agreement in 1966 to find a practical and mutually satisfactory solution to the territorial dispute. Based on this instrument, the country demands a negotiated solution.

It is worth noting that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela does not recognize the judicial mechanism as a means of resolving the aforementioned controversy, since it excludes the nature and purpose of this agreement.
