Venezuela has two medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympics as of September 1

Enderson Santos won the first gold medal for the Creole delegation at the Paris Paralympics


The Venezuelan delegation in the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 has had a good harvest of triumphs until this Sunday, September 1, with two medals and two Olympic diplomas.

Paralympic athlete Enderson Santos achieved the first gold medal of these games for Venezuela in the 400-meter T11, together with his guide Eubrid Maza, with a time of 50.58 seconds.

The silver medal went to Frenchman Timothee Adolphe (50.75). The other favourite for this event was the Cameroonian refugee Guillaume Atanaga, who was content with bronze, finishing the competition in 50.89, which represents a personal best.

The day before, athlete Lisbeli Vera won the silver medal in the 400m T47 at the Paris Paralympics with a time of 56.78. First place went to Brazilian Fernanda Yara da Silva, who clocked a time of 56.74, and bronze went to fellow Brazilian Maria Claudia Augusto, who clocked 57.20.

Venezuela achieved its first Olympic diploma at the 2024 Paralympic Games on Friday, August 30, thanks to Franyeli Vargas in the women’s long jump. The Venezuelan was part of the T11 class final, in which she finished in seventh place by registering a mark of 4.18 meters in her last attempt on the track at the Stade de France, said the Venezuelan. On Saturday, August 31, Yomaira Cohen won the second Paralympic medal in the F37 shot put with a record of 10.67 meters, placing her sixth. First place in this discipline went to Li Yingli from China, who threw the shot put at a distance of 13.45 meters; followed by her compatriot, Mi Na, with a record of 13.19 meters. Third place went to Russian Irina Vertinskaya.

A total of 25 Venezuelan athletes are participating in the 17th edition of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will take place until September 8.

The Venezuelan Paralympic Committee (Copaven) reported that the majority are women, a total of 16 qualified, which represents 70% of the delegation. As for the male participants, Venezuela qualified nine athletes.

The goal of the Venezuelan Paralympic delegation is to surpass the eight medals achieved in the previous edition of Tokyo 2020. According to the president of Copaven, Juan José Rujano, the event also marks Venezuela’s debut in three disciplines: parajudo, paracycling and paratable tennis.
