Venezuela expresa su solidaridad con Sudáfrica tras devastadores efectos de lluvias

Venezuela stands in solidarity with South Africa for the tragic effects that the rains have left in KwaZulu-Natal, which has caused hundreds of deaths, thousands of victims and extensive material damage, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Félix Plasencia, highlighted this Friday.

«Venezuela transmit to sister South Africa our sorrow and solidarity for the tragic consequences of the rains in KwaZulu-Natal, which have caused hundreds of deaths, thousands of victims and extensive damage. Our condolences to the families and friends of the victims”, is the message published by Plasencia, through his account on the social network Twitter.

To his publication, he attached a Telesur report that accounts for more than 400 deaths registered by the local South African authorities due to the floods that hit the Durban region, a port city of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), the third largest in South Africa. .

According to local media, reviewed by Telesur, the number of deaths reached 395 hours ago, although it is feared that more bodies will continue to appear. At the same time, the number of those affected increases to 41,000, in a city where the storms devastated streets, bridges, basic service infrastructure and houses.

Five days after the gale, local authorities explain that there is no longer much hope of finding survivors, although the work of rescuing bodies continues.

The head of the KZN Government, Sihle Zikalala, estimated that the material losses will cause a millionaire expense to the country and advocated the declaration of a state of catastrophe in the city, to allow the release of government funds aimed at the recovery of the territory.

The National Department of Transportation expressed its intention to support the province “for a period of three years to deal with the current disaster it is facing with additional financial resources.”
