Through a statement spread on the social networks of Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the Venezuelan Government repudiated the report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which – it points out – is described as “infamous” and obeys to interests “of the decadent American empire.”
The statement states that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has become “a space at the service of sectors that promote chaos, destabilization and foreign intervention, deliberately ignoring violent actions financed from abroad, that after the July elections left 28 dead, including hate crimes, and hundreds injured, among them state security agents.”
He also points out that Venezuela will not accept attempts at tutelage or colonial interference disguised as concerns for human rights, and warns that they intend to attack the country using the same arguments of the “right”, while rejecting attacks against “legitimate laws such as NGO Law and the Law against the Imperialist Blockade.
Likewise, absolute respect is demanded for Venezuela, its institutions and democracy.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela firmly repudiates the infamous statement issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) today. This statement, which lacks support and objectivity, shows the subordination of the High Commissioner to the interests of the decadent American empire and its shameless use as a tool of political aggression against our homeland.
We denounce that High Commissioner Volker Turk, who has blood on his hands, as a result of the murder of boys and girls in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon, submissive to an imperial agenda, intends to attack Venezuela by repeating the narrative manufactured by the Venezuelan extreme right. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has been converted into a space at the service of the sectors that promote chaos, destabilization and foreign intervention, deliberately ignoring the violent actions financed from abroad, which after the July elections They left 28 dead, including hate crimes, and hundreds injured, including state security agents.
Venezuela is a sovereign State and guarantor of human rights. Unlike what this politicized body tries to impose, our institutions have acted with strict respect for the law, guaranteeing rights and granting procedural benefits to detainees. We further reject attacks against legitimate laws, such as the NGO Law and the Law against Imperialist Blockade, which protect our nation from destabilizing activities and external aggression aimed at undermining our sovereignty.
The erratic and selective behavior of the OHCHR completely disqualifies any pretense of impartiality. We remind its owner and the system he represents that Venezuela will not accept attempts at tutelage or colonial interference disguised as concerns for human rights.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela demands absolute respect for its institutions and democracy, and reiterates that it will continue to firmly defend its independence against attacks from any foreign power or its internal accomplices. Our fight for the sovereignty, peace and well-being of the Venezuelan people is inalienable and will bravely face any threat.
