Venezuela denounces violation of freedom of navigation and commerce

Venezuela denounced to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) the recent assault perpetrated by the United States Armed Forces, by order of its government, on an oil tanker loaded with Venezuelan crude oil in the Caribbean Sea, an act carried out this Tuesday, December 10.

The Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, denounced that such an act represents a violation of the freedom of navigation and commerce, which is why, following instructions from President Nicolás Maduro, she had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the IMO, Mr. Arsenio Domínguez, to whom she denounced this serious situation.

Rodríguez had already described the action as a theft that exposes the true intentions of the US regime, which seeks to appropriate Venezuela’s resources without paying for them.

“We have reached the destination. The real truth is that they want our oil and they want it without paying,” said the vice president at the inauguration of the 6th La Guaira Fair Emprendein the state of La Guaira.

The senior official said that the US military deployment in the Caribbean is “disproportionate, exorbitant and exaggerated”, and that it now reveals the intentions to disrupt economic and commercial activity in the region, to steal Venezuelan natural resources.

Rodríguez requested that the IMO activate all the channels and mechanisms contemplated in international conventions for the freedom of navigation and maritime trade.

“Venezuela is doing what needs to be done, which is appealing to the law, appealing to international legality and defending our natural resources,” said the vice president.
