The Government of Venezuela denounced on Monday a plan by the neo-fascist right to attack the Venezuelan delegation at the VII Summit of Heads of State of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), which begins this Tuesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He reported that the head of the Venezuelan delegation will be Foreign Minister Yván Gil.
Through a statement, the Executive warned that it handles information about the plan, elaborated within the neo-fascist right, to attack the delegation headed by President Nicolás Maduro Moros, and how “they intend to put on a deplorable” show, in order to disturb the positive effects of such an important regional event, and thus contribute to the discredit campaign —already unsuccessful— that has been launched against our country from the North American Empire”, says the text.
The text also describes that, faced with such a scenario, the Government makes the responsible decision to send Foreign Minister Yván Gil as head of the country’s delegation, “in order to contribute to the good development and successful completion of the Summit.”
The Government of the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, also thanks the President of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, “for his cordial invitation and for his firm position to guarantee the success of this great meeting” and highlights the historical and strategic importance of the Summit.
“As a founding State, we place ourselves in the front line to ensure the success of our main mechanism of union and regional integration in favor of our peoples,” he points out.
The show they want to put on
It is worth remembering that on January 20, the Macrismo in Argentina started a boycott against the Celac summit, when Together for Change, which brings together those who identify themselves as followers of the far-right former Argentine president, Mauricio Macri, together with representatives of the Venezuelan opposition, filed a complaint with the Judiciary of the southern country, which holds the pro tempore presidency of the alliance, against the presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro; from Cuba, Miguel Díaz Canel; and from Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega (whom they described as “dictators”) under the pretext of the denunciations that the international right is making against them.
International alignments are part of the electoral and political bid in Argentina. The main opposition alliance raised as a banner of criticism the alleged “international isolation” of the country every time Peronism was in charge of the Casa Rosada, while they devalued Mercosur and celebrated the collapse of Unasur and forged neoliberal regional forums when were Government, highlighted on that date Page 12.
Response from the Government of Fernández
Another relevant issue is that on January 22, the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero, when questioning Macri’s statements, pointed out that Celac is a sovereign and broad forum.
Cafiero also rejected on Twitter a publication by Macri in which the ultra-rightist attacked the heads of state of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, invited to the 7th Celac Summit of Heads of State and Government.
In the same publication repudiated by the Argentine foreign minister, Macri lashed out at the Frente de Todos and Alberto Fernández, highlighted Latin Press.
Communiqué from Venezuela
Below is the full text of the statement sent by the Government of Venezuela.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, first of all, wants to highlight the historical and strategic importance of holding the VII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), to be held in the city of Buenos Aires (Argentina), on January 24 of this year. As a founding State, we place ourselves in the front line to ensure the success of our main mechanism of union and regional integration in favor of our peoples.
That is why we want to notify that in the last few hours we have been irrefutably informed of a plan drawn up within the neo-fascist right, whose objective is to carry out a series of attacks against our delegation headed by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, for which they intend to put on a deplorable “show”, in order to disturb the positive effects of such an important regional event, and thus contribute to the discredit campaign —already unsuccessful— that has been launched against our country from the American Empire.
However, given this scenario of extravagant plans designed by right-wing extremists alienated from interests outside our region; and in order to contribute to the good development and successful completion of the Summit in question, we have made the responsible decision to send the Foreign Minister of our country, as head of delegation, with the instructions to bring the voice of the People of Venezuela before the highest instance of CELAC, as well as carrying out the necessary interactions that will be developed among the 33 delegations present at this meeting, at all levels.
The government of the Republic of Venezuela thanks the President of the Argentine Republic, Alberto Fernández, for his cordial invitation and for his firm position in guaranteeing the success of this great meeting.
The Bolivarian Government reaffirms, once again, before the member countries of CELAC and before our peoples, the unwavering commitment to promote unity and integration as a fundamental path towards the independence and development of our region.
In Caracas, on January 23, 2023.
