The ambassadors of Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East held a meeting this Friday in which they called for peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, reported the permanent representative of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN) Geneva, Hector Constant.
Through his account on the social network Twitter, Constant specified that the ambassadors were summoned by the Permanent Representative of Russia, Sergei Mélik-Bagdasárov, to update the issues related to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
During the meeting, the ambassadors reiterated the call for peace, to avoid the escalation of the conflicts that have been going on in those countries since last February.
Faced with the scenario of global conflict, the representatives of Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East raised their voices to denounce “the application of illegal “sanctions” and the danger of an arms race,” Ambassador Constantant stressed.
Russian military operation
Russia began on February 24 a military operation in Ukraine, after the authorities of the People’s Republics of Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk (PRL) requested his help to repel the increase in aggression from kyiv.
The objective of the operation is to protect the population of Donbass from the abuses and genocide of kyiv during the last eight years, in addition to “demilitarizing” and “denazifying” Ukraine.
US supplies weapons to Ukraine
On Wednesday, June 1, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, officially announced the delivery of a new military aid package to Ukraine.
This new delivery includes HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, a type of long-range weapon that kyiv has been requesting from its allies for months, saying they are essential to be able to deal with Russia’s military operation, Sputnik said.
Likewise, it was learned that the Biden administration plans to sell four MQ-1C Gray Eagle drones to Ukraine, which can be equipped with Hellfire missiles, with a range of 8,000 meters, agencies report.
Russia has reiterated its complaints about the danger posed by supplying Ukraine with weapons.
