Venezuela consolidates “Communal Feminism” as an engine of territorial transformation

In a bid to strengthen the protagonism of women in the Communes and Communal Circuits of the country, the Communal Union, together with the Ministry of Popular Power for Communes, Social Movements and Urban Agriculture, consolidated during the year 2025 the political proposal of Communal Feminism.

This initiative, developed from the territorial bases, responds to the reality of thousands of women who hold close to 70% of the spokespersons in the Community Councils at the national level, which reaffirms their essential role in popular organization and in the construction of a fairer and more inclusive model of participation.

Through workshops, forums and spaces for dialogue, the movement has promoted the active participation of women in local politics, which has made it possible to promote a cultural change aimed at dismantling gender stereotypes and consolidating equity. This proposal not only directly benefits women, but also strengthens the entire community, by integrating a diversity of perspectives and experiences that enrich the construction of more effective solutions tailored to the needs of each territory.

Communal feminism fight flags

Since May of this year, community members in the country, together with the School for the Strengthening of Popular Power, have developed a national awareness agenda structured in four flags of struggle, aimed at responding to the main realities faced by women in communal territories. Firstly, the eradication of violence against women is promoted through training processes on the current legal framework, the different types of violence and the prevention protocols that must be activated in each territory.

Likewise, comprehensive, sexual and reproductive health is promoted, recognizing that the well-being of women is an essential pillar for the development of a more just society. Another central axis of this agenda is the strengthening of women’s leadership and political participation, by encouraging their active incorporation in decision-making spaces.

In turn, the feminist and communal economy is positioned as a concrete alternative to consolidate the economic autonomy of women, through productive models that prioritize equity and social justice.
