The Alternate Ambassador of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN), Joaquín Pérez Ayestarán, was elected this Thursday as president of the 30th Meeting of States Parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
The designation had the support of 182 countries and “is the first time in history that a representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is elected to chair a Meeting of States Parties to any of the 7 International Treaties, under the scope of the UN , signed by the Venezuelan State in matters of human rights”, highlights the Twitter account of the Venezuelan mission in the multilateral organization.
In this regard, Pérez Ayestarán thanked the choice, in a message broadcast by the social network.
Pérez Ayestarán thanked the trust placed in chairing this meeting. “It is a responsibility that we assume with patriotic pride and humility, which corresponds to Venezuela’s commitment to human rights, equality, non-discrimination and reparation efforts,” he wrote.
