Venezuela celebrates the 239th anniversary of the birth of the Liberator

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated this Sunday the 238th anniversary of the birth of the Liberator Simón Bolívar, after highlighting his vision of freedom and union.

Earlier, members of the Executive Cabinet led by the Vice President for Citizen Security and Peace, Remigio Ceballos Ichaso, they raised the flag in the National Pantheon in honor of the Liberator.

In addition to the Head of State, the Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, also extended his commemorative words in honor of Bolívar, as well as for the 199th anniversary of the Naval Battle of the Lake and Bolivarian Navy Day.

«With his birth, 239 years ago, the hope of the dispossessed began to flourish, of blacks, browns, mestizos and Indians who heeded the call to join the emancipatory cause, fighting against the tyranny that had oppressed and subjugated for more than 300 years. to our America,” he said in a statement.

Regarding the Naval Battle of the Lake on July 24, 1823, he said that the victory meant the breaking “of the oppressive chains of the Spanish empire.”

“Such a feat, an icon in naval action, marked the Day of the Bolivarian Navy,” he remarked.

For his part, the Vice President of Public Works and Services, Néstor Reverol, stressed that Bolívar from his youth strengthened his ideals “to fulfill his libertarian dream in the American continent.”

“His independence cause and service to the Homeland is today an example of dedication, struggle and love for the Venezuelan people,” he added.

The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, referred to Bolívar as the universal Caracas.

“239 years ago a man whose thought became immortal was born, a soldier who fought for the welfare of the people and who never gave up in the face of adversity. Today we remember Father Simón Bolívar, the Liberator, our universal Caracas”, he said.

The Liberator

Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco was born in the city of Caracas on July 24, 1783. His parents were Doña María de la Concepción Palacios y Blanco and Colonel Juan Vicente Bolívar, a wealthy family from that Caracas. colonial.

In his childhood and adolescence he was instructed by the teachers Andrés Bello and Simón Rodríguez, who reinforced the need for the anti-imperialist struggle.

In the year 1813, he was granted the title of Liberator by the Cabildo de Mérida and was ratified in Caracas that same year, after his reconquest of the Andes and central areas of the country through the Admirable Campaign.

His life was characterized by fighting against Spanish rule. That was how he achieved, together with the patriotic forces, the independence of Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and Panama.

He died on December 17, 1830, in Santa Marta, Colombia.
