The Alternate Ambassador of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN), Joaquín Pérez, called for the prevention of harmful acts against Diplomatic and Consular Missions and their Agents.
During his participation on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, in the general debate on the topic of “Review of Effective Measures to Improve the Protection and Security of Missions and Diplomatic and Consular Representatives”, made the call.
He emphasized that the effective performance of the work of Diplomatic and Consular Agents is closely linked to the environment and the conditions under which they can perform their duties, especially with regard to security and protection, AVN reported.
He explained that they currently face common challenges, which is why they are needed now more than ever. collective solutions.
He stressed that it is important to implement international and legally binding standards, adopted by the international community, to facilitate the work of diplomatic and consular agents.
Likewise, he asked to guarantee both the security and the inviolability and the sacred nature of diplomatic and consular missions, even in situations of rupture of diplomatic relations.
