This Friday, in a meeting with the new High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations Organization, UN, Volker Türk, the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, requested on behalf of Venezuela that the dimension of unilateral coercive measures be incorporated into the work schedule in the country.
“We have requested that the aspect of Venezuela be incorporated as a blocked country, as a victim of unilateral coercive measures that impact the enjoyment of the human rights of the Venezuelan people,” said the Vice President after the meeting held with the High Commissioner in Geneva.
Rodríguez recalled that the impact of unilateral coercive measures on rights in Venezuela was established in the report by the independent rapporteur Elena Duhan.
“We have updated the number of sanctions, how this impacts on public services. How it impacts the remuneration system of our workers, in terms of health, food, education, electricity, water. All the dimensions that the blockade against our country has precisely”, he added.
In this regard, the Vice President also highlighted the resilience of the Venezuelan people, which has allowed them to overcome difficulties victoriously. “But that does not mean that there is no blockade, she pointed out,” and she recalled that “unilateral coercive measures violate international law and impact national life and the life of our people.”
Regarding the coercive measures, Rodríguez recalled that more than 30 countries are victims of economic blockades, and pointed out that it is a subject that the agencies of the system are beginning to learn about.
Lastly, the Vice President highlighted the importance of the visit to the United Nations Organization in Geneva, which she said was very fruitful. In addition, she reported that on behalf of the Venezuelan Government, she extended an invitation to the new High Commissioner to visit Venezuela.
More fruitful meetings at the UN
Also this Friday, the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, held a working meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Unctad, Rebeca Grynspan. At the meeting they reviewed issues related to cooperation in economic matters to overcome the effects and consequences of the economic blockade that Venezuela is facing.
The Bolivarian peace agenda continues to advance along the paths of cooperation to strengthen the country’s economy and overcome the blockade.
Earlier this Friday, the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, held a meeting with the director general of the UN in Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya.
The meeting addressed the current challenges of multilateralism and the cooperation relationship between Venezuela and the international organization, with a view to strengthening social protection programs in the country.
The Vice President’s agenda in Europe began with her participation in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where she demonstrated the inadmissibility of the unilateral claim presented by Guyana on Guyana Esequiba, which violates the Geneva agreement, to favor energy transnationals.
