Venezuela asks the ICJ to declare Guyana's claim inadmissible

This Thursday, the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, asked the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to Hague to declare Guyana’s claim for the Essequibo inadmissible.

To the present Venezuela’s objections for Guyana’s claim before the ICJ, Rodríguez affirmed that the Venezuelan government does not recognize the jurisprudence of the international court, since the Geneva Agreement of 1966 already exists, referred to a note from Telesur.

In addition, the Vice President pointed out that the ICJ is not in a position to admit the Guyana claim because the United Kingdom, an essential party to settle the issue of the dispute, does not participate.

“United Kingdom in pursuit of profits acted against a sovereign state” added Delcy Rodríguez.

During her participation, Delcy Rodriguez reviewed the territorial dispute over the Essequibo, demonstrating with their approaches how the UK misappropriated that territory.

As part of these arguments, the Vice President pointed out that the investigations show that the United Kingdom presented falsified maps that contained borders in its favor and in turn declared that these were not the subject of negotiation since they would be defended with the use of force, confirming with it the British imperial voracity.

The Venezuelan objections to the application filed by Guyana are based on the inadmissibility of the application. “First the native soil than nothing. Our life is nothing other than the heritage of our country.” Rodriguez added.

For the Executive Vice President, the current malicious misinterpretation of the agreement by Guyana affects the rights of the people of Venezuela, specifically their territorial integrity.

Given this fact, Venezuela, in compliance with its constitutional duty and in accordance with international law, filed preliminary objections against the admissibility of the claim in question and states that the court should not admit it, he commented.

“For Venezuela, this issue is the very center of the Homeland, it will not allow a new territorial dispossession.” Delcy Rodriguez declared.
