Venezuela appreciates Iran's support in the face of US threats to the country

Foreign Minister Yván Gil, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, expressed the most cordial greetings to the statement of the Islamic Republic of Iran in support of the right of Venezuela, as a sovereign nation and defender of the UN Charter, to protect its peace and sovereignty against unjustified external threats.

The message was published by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, through his Telegram channel, where he reiterated the ties of solidarity and cooperation between both nations, based on mutual respect for the great Iranian people and Government, which have allowed us to advance together in the search for a multipolar world.

The Islamic Republic of Iran pointed out that there is no justification for the threats of force against Venezuela. “This country is a member of the United Nations and, therefore, all countries have the inherent right to defend themselves against any external threat or aggression.”

“We have expressed on numerous occasions our solidarity with Venezuela, since the events that are occurring in the Western Hemisphere contribute to an action based on force and are a clear example of intimidation at the international level, there is no justification or reason for threatening actions or the use of force against this country (…) At different international and multilateral levels, we will maintain collaboration with Venezuela, China and Russia.”

He highlighted Venezuela’s leadership within the Non-Aligned Movement and the group of friends of the UN charter and other international organizations. “We believe that what is happening with Venezuela, if it does not face resistance and comprehensive action by the international community, could set a precedent for violating international law, therefore, it is the responsibility of all governments to position themselves against any violation of the principles and rules of the United Nations.”
