This Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, published a statement on his Twitter account through which the Government of Venezuela informed that it had notified the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) that it will appeal against the decision to authorize the resumption of the investigation against the nation.

“The Government of Venezuela informs that it has notified the ICC Appeals Chamber of its appeal against the decision of the Preliminary Questions Chamber that authorized the resumption of the investigation in the matter called “Venezuela I”, published the Foreign Minister along with the text of the official statement.

Venezuela expressed its disagreement with the decision made by the Chamber of Preliminary Questions of the ICC of authorize investigations to resume against the nation last June.

Since the beginning of the investigations, in February 2018, Venezuela has denounced the intention to use the mechanisms of international criminal justice for political purposes, linked to maneuvers to force a change of government promoted by the United States authorities, reports AVN.

Faced with this decision, Venezuela reiterates its denunciation of this offensive that uses the institutionality of the ICC for political purposes, and announces that it will resort to the Appeals Chamber of the ICC.

The text of the communiqué states that in the coming weeks the country will consign the evidence that supports its appeal and will denounce the fallacies of the decision of the Preliminary Questions Chamber.

In the same way, it confirms that it will continue to make use of the actions established in International Law to defend the truth and ensure its rights against the Nation.
