Venezuela and Saudi Arabia finalize communication agreements

The Minister for Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, held a meeting on Monday with his counterpart from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Salman Al-Dosari; in which cooperation agreements in communication matters were finalized.

Ñañez explained that in the meeting they touched on general issues but that they pointed towards a specific agenda for this year. In addition, goals were set with a view to the year 2030, and specific projects were defined, such as linking the news agencies of both countries, joining efforts against fake news, and promoting tourism and the culture of both nations.

In this regard, Ñañez stated that the main project is to “twin the news agencies” of both nations, so that “each country can share first-hand, the truth, the events, the political facts that set the tone.”

This, to be able to face the media campaign and the “fake news” that are handled from the traditional media against the two countries. “We agree on the need to have this communication because we also suffer from the communicative hegemonic line that generally ignores the positive and substantive things of each of the countries, the Minister of Communication said about this.

Venezuela and Saudi Arabia: culture and tourism

Ñañez added that he spoke with Minister Salman Al-Dosari about the need to show the tourist destinations of both Saudi Arabia in Venezuela, as well as the paradises and the offer that our country has as a tourist destination for the Arab people, as well as the need to twinning these nations from the cultural point of view.

Likewise, the Minister highlighted the closeness between both nations that has been made evident during the visit of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, in the Middle Eastern country.

The meeting between the two communication ministers took place in the context of the second meeting of the high-level Commission between Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Earlier this Monday, the Venezuelan head of state held a meeting with the prime minister and heir Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Foreign Minister Yván Gil also held a meeting with his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, which he described as productive.

In that meeting, issues of cooperation between the two nations were reviewed, and they set a roadmap for joint work and the call for the II Mixed Commission, which will be held in Riyadh at the end of this year.

Bilateral relations between Venezuela and Saudi Arabia have as their main point in common, their participation in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), to which they have belonged since 1960.
