Venezuela and Iranian company agree to start work to install fiber optic factory

The governor of Vargas state, José Alejandro Terán, announced an agreement with an Iranian company that will allow the creation of a fiber optic factory. He highlighted that the project will generate new sources of employment, diversification of exports and new technological inputs for the country.


Venezuela signed an alliance with the Iranian company MDC. The agreement established the start of “adaptation work” to install a fiber optic factory in the state of Vargas.

The information was disclosed by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) this Sunday, November 3, although the medium did not disclose further information about the execution time of the project.

According to VTV, the governor of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán (PSUV), assured that the factory will generate new sources of employment, diversification of exports and new technological inputs for the country.

Meanwhile, the sole authority of the Special Economic Zone of La Guaira, Marcos Meléndez, announced on his Instagram account that “the architecture, engineering and adaptation work is beginning” and that, by the middle of next year, it is expected that the country have “a new technological company with an export vocation.”

The “strategic” agreement was signed in the company of the Iranian ambassador to Venezuela, Hojjatolah Soltani. Also present was the Iranian Minister of Information Technology, Seyed Sattar Hashemi, who arrived in Venezuela on Friday, November 1 to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area.

During his visit, Hashemi met with the Venezuelan Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, with whom he spoke about “new scientific and technological cooperation agendas in telecommunications, digital transformation and AI (artificial intelligence),” the official told via Telegram.

On October 24, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, reviewed a set of bilateral agreements on oil, mining and health, among other sectors, during a meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit that was held in Russia.
