The Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC), together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), develop the Third Workshop for the Collective Construction of the Second Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) that have to do with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting took place in the Waraira Repano Hall of the Popular University of the Environment Fruto Vivas (Upafv), at the main headquarters of Minec, in Caracas, with the objective of establishing the scope of the new CDN and incorporating contributions from the private sector and evaluations. vulnerability of strategic areas such as agriculture, fishing and water resources.
These activities are aligned with the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change (PNACC), framed in the commitments of the Paris Agreement.
During the first day, technical sessions were held that included the presentation of the results of the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (Ingei), an analysis of the projections on climate mitigation and adaptation, and a review of the international guidelines for the construction of CDNs.
The authorities highlighted the importance of guaranteeing a participatory and transparent process that encourages multisectoral commitment.
On the second date, work tables were held with specialists, technicians and representatives of the private sector, and the impacts of vulnerability in aspects linked to the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change were evaluated. These sessions will also identify concrete actions and establish priorities that ensure a sustainable and resilient transition in the face of climate change.
NDCs represent each country’s efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Venezuela, like other nations, must present its third round of CDN in 2025.
This meeting is relevant, because a roadmap is built that articulates the actions necessary to comply with these commitments and strengthen the country’s capacity to face climate challenges.
With these initiatives, Minec reaffirms its commitment to climate action and promotes dialogue and cooperation that seek sustainable and inclusive development.
The workshop is a fundamental advance towards national climate planning and is an example of how collaboration between the public and private sectors and international organizations can translate into effective solutions for the protection of the environment and the construction of a resilient future.
