Venezuela–Cuba relations
Relations between Venezuela and Cuba were strengthened after the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez to power.
In the year 2000, the Comprehensive Cuba-Venezuela Cooperation Agreement was signed, which includes several cooperation agreements in the areas of health, economy, education, science, sports and culture, for the well-being of both peoples.
These mechanisms seek to counteract the economic blockade that Venezuela and Cuba face, imposed by the United States government.
