During the meeting, the officials discussed “issues to advance the development of tourism between the sister nations of Cuba and Venezuela,” said Gómez, who did not provide further details about what was discussed.
On April 20, the official met with the general director of Cubana de Aviación, Luis Godoy, and other directors of this airline with the aim of evaluating “commercial strategies to strengthen air connections” and “encourage multi-destination,” according to Gomez reported.
Margarita, in the southeast of the Caribbean Sea, has received 5,735 Cuban tourists since March 2022, when a charter operation connecting both nations began, until April 18, with the arrival on this island, belonging to the state of Nueva Esparta, of a group of 22 travelers on a flight that left Havana.

The Venezuelan tourism sector has registered a “significant recovery” since 2021, especially in Nueva Esparta, also visited by thousands of Russians in the last year, Tourism Minister Ali Padrón said on Monday.
It foresees that, until the end of this year, 280 “direct to the island” charter flights will take place from countries such as Russia, Cuba, Poland, Colombia, Italy and Spain, which will generate an “increase” in Venezuela’s income.
