Venezuela and Cuba evaluate new opportunities to strengthen cooperation

(EFE).- The governments of Venezuela and Cuba evaluated on Monday new opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, during a meeting between the executive vice president of the South American country, Delcy Rodríguez, and Cuban vice prime minister Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, visiting Caracas for the third time since November.

The Cuban official, accompanied by a “broad delegation” from the island nation, reviewed together with Rodríguez the bilateral alliance to “perfect and strengthen it,” according to the state channel VTV, which broadcast images of the meeting, without giving further details about what was discussed.

The Cuban delegation, also made up of the Ministers of Industry, Eloy Álvarez Martínez, of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, and of Construction, Rene Mesa Villafaña, is in Caracas with the objective of “deepening bilateral collaboration and examining the advances” of the cooperation, added the television station.

Valdés Menéndez visited the South American country in November and December of last year, when he held meetings with the Venezuelan authorities, according to the so-called Bolivarian revolution, to review the agreements.

The two countries are close political and economic allies. Since the year 2000, Venezuela became the main supplier of crude oil to the Island through an agreement that grants preferential prices in exchange for medical and educational services.

On January 25, a delegation of the Government of Cuba, led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, met at the Simón Bolívar international airport of Maiquetía, which serves Caracas, with the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, to review alliances in education, health, culture and economy.

Neither of the two governments offered details about what was discussed during this meeting.
