Venezuela and China strengthen agreements on space cooperation

Venezuela and China reviewed and expanded their bilateral cooperation ties on Tuesday spacewith a view to developing new lines of research in this area and science and technology, highlighted the Minister for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez.

Through his account on the social network Twitter, Jiménez stressed that during the meeting with the representatives of China “we contemplate new lines of development in the field of space research, science and technology, as well as other spaces for scientific exchange and training of staff”.

During the meeting, the representatives of both countries reviewed and evaluated the invitation to Chinese lunar and deep space exploration, the renewal of the Bilateral Aerospace Agreement, the training and exchange of personnel, the promotion of the Remote Sensing Project (Satellites) and the invitation to participate in the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (Apsco for its acronym in English), detailed a press release from the Ministry.

Agreements: strengthening programs

Venezuela and China agreed to strengthen the training and human exchange program, with the aim of continuing to train Venezuelans in the scientific and technological area.

“These space cooperation agreements need to be renewed and expanded for the new times and the new challenges that are presented today,” reiterated Minister Gabriela Jiménez.

For her part, Vice Minister Gloria Carvalho added that “it is essential to maintain the principles of cooperation that have been maintained up to now with China, which allow the training of Venezuelan scientists together with Chinese specialists.”

In this regard, Carvalho stressed the importance of developing programs to promote interest in space and science in children.

It is important to highlight that Venezuela and China have continued what was started by Commander Hugo Chávez and established by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, to strengthen ties in space matters.

It should be remembered that this cooperation was completed on January 28, 18 years since the signing of the first space cooperation agreement between Venezuela and the People’s Republic of China.

“We have strengthened cooperation ties in the space sector with representatives of the sister People’s Republic of China, reaping the fruits of Commander Chávez and our President Nicolás Maduro,” said Minister Gabriela Jiménez on Twitter.

During “these 18 years they have been fundamental pillars for training and growth in satellite control processes and applications in the development of various areas of the country, as well as the strengthening of a strategic alliance promoted by both governments,” the note highlighted.

The Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation on the Use and Exploration of the Peaceful Use of Outer Space, an instrument signed by China and Venezuela, was the beginning of a series of agreements that include not only the launch of satellites, but also the construction of a series of of infrastructures for the sovereign management of space technology from Venezuela, and the specialized training of resources and trained human talent.

Meeting

The meeting was attended by the Vice Minister for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies, Gloria Carvalho; the Vice Minister of Application of Scientific Knowledge, Alberto Quintero; the Vice Minister of Research and Application of Knowledge, Francisco Durán.

The Chinese representation was made up of the president of the China Science and Technology Cooperation Board, Wu Yansheng; the vice administrator of the State Agency for Science and Technology of China, Xu Zhanbin; the president of the Chinese Academy of Space Technology, Lin Daming; among other authorities.
