Venezuela and Brazil rebuild bases to advance in South-South cooperation

Venezuela and Brazil They are committed to rebuilding solid foundations with the aim of advancing along the path of South-South cooperation and complementarity, highlighted the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil.

Work tables in Caracas

Both delegations, headed by Rander Peña, Vice Minister of Venezuela for Latin America; and Ruy Carlos Pereira, director of ABC; who set up work tables in Caracas to review the history of the agreements signed between the two countries.

During the act, held on Thursday at the Casa Amarilla, Vice Minister Peña explained that “there are more than 700 agreements that we have with Brazil in the entire area of ​​cooperation, political and economic alliances. We have enormous challenges within that evaluation that we will carry out and we have to advance in a follow-up committee”.

The diplomat stressed the importance of this meeting, in view of the meeting that will be held soon by the presidents of Venezuela and Brazil, Nicolás Maduro and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, although without mentioning the exact date.

For his part, the Director of ABC commented that “the idea is that we can review what we signed and update it so that, from now on, we can implement what we signed,” he added that it is necessary to “identify new topics that we could incorporate into the bilateral, technical and humanitarian cooperation for the period 2023-2025”.

high level meetings

Since the arrival of the Brazilian delegation in Venezuela, headed by the director of ABC, Ruy Pereira, it arrived in the country on Wednesday, May 17, with the purpose of strengthening cooperation in different areas.

Likewise, he held meetings with the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, at the Miraflores Palace, as well as with the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, and other Executive authorities.

Venezuela-Brazil relationship

Relations between Venezuela and Brazil, suspended in 2019 in the government of the far-right Jair Bolsonaro, were resumed with the return of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the Presidency of the Amazonian giant in January of this year.

The visit of the ABC representatives marks the first multidisciplinary delegation that Brazil has sent to Venezuela after the inauguration of President Lula.

The two South American nations maintain agreements on cooperation, which add up to 19 in areas such as agriculture, health, fishing and aquaculture, as well as social issues, which will be addressed in working groups for two days.
