Venezuela and Benin proposed exchanging ancestral knowledge

The ambassador of Venezuela In Benin, Jesús García held a meeting with authorities from the Ewe-Meyi Polytechnic Institute, in which the need to exchange ancestral knowledge was raised.

García met with professors Assogba Silvestre and Claudine Abbey, according to a Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This meeting was also a good opportunity to discuss the protection of Mother Earth in the face of the climate crisis that the world is experiencing.

“We cannot continue to accept that transnational pharmaceutical companies steal our knowledge, patent it and then sell it at high prices. We want to make exchanges to produce biofertilizers that do not contaminate the earth,” said the Venezuelan diplomat.

Garcia also indicated that they will soon move forward on a memorandum of understanding to “link these experiences within the framework of South-South cooperation.”

The National Assembly approved the appointment of García as Venezuela’s designated ambassador to Benin, concurrent to Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and as permanent representative to the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO).
