At least 22 people died and 52 are still missing as a result of a landslide caused by the rains in the town of Tejerías, Aragua state, central zone of Venezuelaconfirmed this Sunday the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez.
According to Rodríguez, who told the state channel Venezuelan Television (VTV) from the area of the event, “there was a large landslide” that caused five streams to overflow, causing “human losses” and great material damage.

The vice president pointed out that, by order of President Nicolás Maduro, a “tragedy zone” was decreed in the town of Tejerías and three days of mourning.
The flooding of a stream this Saturday dragged houses, urban furniture, and flooded the streets of the town, destroying everything that the water found in its path.
The Government today deployed rescue agencies, citizen security, as well as maintenance and cleaning crews, and personnel from various institutions for “the comprehensive care of the people,” President Nicolás Maduro said through his Twitter account.

Venezuela, Prensa Latina points out, suffered intense rainfall for several days throughout its northern fringe as a result of a tropical wave, which later became a storm as it passed through the country.
