Velázquez asks for new indebtedness for US$ 225 million

Hugo Velázquez, Vice President of the Republic, gave a press conference where he announced the presentation of a bill. This is a new indebtedness for US$ 225 million to pave Route 12 from Chaco’i (Nueva Asunción district) to the General Bruguez district, both towns located in the department of Presidente Hayes.

The communicators expected that the conference would be about the bill that will prevent the salary increase to public officials. When asked about this document, he stated that it will be presented shortly.

“At this time it is impossible for the Executive Branch to increase the salary of public officials,” he said.

Regarding the increase in judicial clerks approved by the deputies last Wednesday, he pointed out that there is no possibility that rigid expenses will increase. Therefore, Abdo will veto this increase if it is also approved in the Senate.

He affirmed that in the month of April it will be decided whether Abdo Benítez, Nicanor Duarte Frutos, Lilian Samaniego or Juan Afara will be the candidate for the ruling party to dispute the presidency of the ANR.

He also denied that Abdo is “playing both ways” with the candidacy of Velázquez himself and that of Euclides Acevedo, national chancellor for the presidency of the Republic.

“We are doing very well in the polls, the same thing will happen as in 2017 when Abdo beat Cartes,” he said.
