The tax authorities of Brazil reported this afternoon the temporary suspension of legal cooperation between the Public Ministry of Brazil and Peru regarding various cases related to the Odebrecht company.
Regarding this, the coordinator of the Lava Jato Special Team, Raphael Candle, expressed his concern about this decision, taken from the South American giant, without taking into account the opinion of the prosecution Peruvian.
“This temporary suspension is a fact that we must look at with concern, but with the peace of mind that we have always scrupulously respected all agreements. Yes, It strikes us that it has been decided without having been heard beforehand when, in general, decisions have to be made after listening to both parties“, said in one interview in Peru 21.
Vela Barba pointed out that the document is still being translated from Portuguese to Spanish, but the first information they received is that said resolution is dated October 31 and would respond to a request from the business brazilian by irregularities have been presented by Peruvian prosecutors in the investigations involving Odebrecht.
“We are in the process of becoming aware of some decisions that the Brazilian Federal Public Ministry would have taken regarding a request from the company Odebrecht to temporarily suspend all aspects related to international cooperation,” added the prosecutor.
This annulment of legal collaboration between the two countries would put at risk the proceedings of effective collaboration of executives and former executives of Odebrecht. These, in Peru, are relevant to money laundering cases involving Ollanta Humala, Nadine Heredia, Keiko Fujimori, among other national politicians.
“Our trip is the result of the permanent coordination in the execution of the effective collaboration agreement in a sentence already approved with the laws of the Peru”, held candle from São Paulo.
Odebrecht specifies that the Public Ministry of Peru he has broken binational agreements, but Rafael Vela denies it.
The prosecutor explained that something has changed during the weekend, since “until the previous week the proceedings have been carried out with total normality.” He adds that the prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez fulfilled his duties until last Thursday in Curitiba, whereby, the end of the cooperation is “surprising” and it would be necessary to investigate “an alleged procedural bad faith”.
