The Superintendence of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Merchandise (Sutran) closed the Vehicle Technical Inspection Center ‘Reviteip SAC’ (Caylloma – Arequipa) for 20 days. This establishment issued the inspection certificate to the bus of the company Qorimayo Sociedad Anónima Inversiones SA., involved in an accident that occurred in the district of Machu Picchu (Cusco).
During the intervention, the inspectors requested the physical file and videos of the damaged vehicle as well as other files, under a risk management approach. With the imposition of the report, duly notified at the time of the inspection, the administrative sanctioning procedure against the aforementioned company was initiated. The sanction that would be applicable, if administrative responsibility is proven, It would be the cancellation of the authorization and permanent disqualification from obtaining a new authorization.
Without prejudice to administrative actions, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the entity will proceed to formulate the respective criminal complaint.
ACCIDENT
Last Monday, minutes before midday, a Consettur bus, which was covering the route from the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu to Machu Picchu Pueblo, went off the road onto a slope, leaving 30 tourists injured so far, several of them seriously.
The incident occurred at 11:32 a.m. in the area known as Point 07 on the Hiram Bingham Highway, where the bus with license plate X0L-961, driven by Marco Chacmani (42), The vehicle left the road for reasons that are being investigated, and its front end collided with an embankment.
As a result of this fact, national visitors, as well as from various countries in Europe, Asia and South America were affected, having to be rushed to the Machu Picchu health center, from where they were evacuated by train to various clinics in Cusco.
Officers from the Machu Picchu Police Station, as well as prosecutor María Huacco, from the Machu Picchu Joint Prosecutor’s Office, arrived at the scene to carry out all the necessary actions to maintain order after the accident.
