Various women from the political, academic, commercial and press fields came together to show their rejection of the appointment of Hector Valer as the new president of the Council of Ministers, due to the serious complaints against him for violence against his late wife and daughter.
The statement signed by several personalities such as former Prime Minister Mirtha Vásquez, former Defense Minister Nuria Esparch, former Environment and Midagri Minister Fabiola Muñoz, lawyer and teacher Marlene Molero, journalists Rosa María Palacios and Maribel Toledo-Ocampo, among others, it calls on President Pedro Castillo and the different political actors to adopt a serious, consistent and clear commitment against gender violence.
The document questions the recent appointment of the premier, which they consider is not consistent with the fight to confront violence against women.
In addition, they also reject the appointment of José Luis Gavidia as Minister of Defense, “who not only minimized the complaints against Premier Valer by trying to classify them as a private matter, but also has complaints against him for psychological violence against his former partner ”.
For its part, the appointment of Katy Ugarte as Minister of Women and Vulnerable Populations is also considered incompatible with the mandate that this position requires due to the “statements loaded with expressions that discriminate against the LGBTQI+ population and that are against the gender approach ”.
