In a letter sent to President Gustavo Petro and Vice President Francia Márquez, 28 personalities from various political, legal and social sectors of the country, ask that in the IColombian Institute of Family Welfare a person other than a political quota is appointed.
The letter states that “We do not want the ICBF to be delivered again as a political quota to pay favors or friends, as has happened in several governments.. Nor that the regional ones continue being the minor box of the congressmen”.

The signatories of the letter also maintain that “we, the undersigned defenders of children, ask you with total urgency and clamor, that the direction of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute is handed over to a capable person, with extensive experience, technical and with deep knowledge in childhood issues, human rights, gender approach and with the will to stop the corruption that has been entrenched there for decades, leaving many children in the worst conditions, vulnerable, neglected and even abused under the care of the State. “.
For representatives of civil society, it is better that “they do not appoint for political reasons or convenience, but by knowledge, preparation, capacity, background, conviction about the rights of children”.
The letter also indicates that “When we talk about children in Colombia, we understand that there is a consensus on the importance of protecting the rights of children and adolescents in all social, political and economic spheres”.
The signatories point out that “it is enough to read the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Political Constitution of Colombia or the Code of Childhood and Adolescence itself to conclude that as a Society and State we are called to care for and protect them.”
They also say that “The defense of children has not been so clear in our society, that first we had to go a long way in our history to be able to understand that boys and girls are not inferior beings to us, but, on the contrary, their condition of vulnerability requires special protection”.
