The President of the Judiciary, Javier Arevaloreported today that 4,084 judicial files, including investigations into drug trafficking and smuggling, were destroyed by vandals who participated in the violent protests between December 2022 and January of this year.
In Puno, for example, in the offices that suffered damage, 645 folders were burned; in Arequipa 825, in Apurímac 143; in Huancavelica, 830, and 1,681 files in Ayacucho.
In this context, Arévalo maintained that his management tries to keep the functions of his sector afloat. This morning he declared from the Superior Court of Justice of Lima, that last weekend he was attacked by violent protesters.

“We are trying not to paralyze the administration of justice, but we need greater vigilance; a burned courthouse cannot be restored immediately, ”he told the press.
Along these lines, he reiterated his request to President Dina Boluarte to order the Armed Forces to guard the courts and chambers located in different regions of the country.
“Vandalism cannot be accepted, nor indiscriminate repression. We cannot continue with this situation. Peru has to recover the path of peace”, he said.
Regarding the deaths registered in the protests, he assured that the Judiciary will treat these cases in an “impartial manner” once the Prosecutor’s Office sends them.

-According to information from the Police, 38 of its offices nationwide were attacked by vandals during the protests, as well as 91 public offices and 99 private locations.
-With the attacks on the headquarters in Lima, there are 17 facilities of the Judiciary that suffered damage.
